Life Lessons in the Barn

Growing up I have been extremely active in the livestock industry. However, the life lessons that I have learned in the barn have gone far beyond just the show ring, but the lessons learned are applicable to all areas of my life, and if you are apart of the livestock industry you will probably agree.

  1. Be humble- Don’t brag about your success, simply, “Work hard in silence, and let success make the noise.”

  2. Be a gracious loser- Although this is much easier said, than done, it is important to learn from your losses and acknowledge the work put in by your competitors.

  3. Take a step outside of your comfort zone- Don’t let your walls confine you, break through your boundaries and do the unthinkable.

  4. Out work your competitors- Perfect the little things, in order to accomplish the big things.

  5. Give back- the livestock industry and the people in it have helped form you into the person you are today, lend a helping hand to youth and share your passion with others in the industry

  6. Give thanks- A simple word that means so much. Thank those who take you to shows, support you, who have helped you along the way.

Although the list of things that I have learn while being in the swine industry could go on forever, I use these things as a reminder to be better than the person I was yesterday.

In sisterhood,

Hannah
